Kanawha (kah-NAW-wah) River, West Virginia, is formed by the confluence of the New and Gauley rivers, south-central West Virginia, east southeast Charleston. It flows northwest to the Ohio River at Point Pleasant. There are navigation locks and power dams on the river making the river navigable to Charleston.
